Community Investment Partner Southern Mutual Help Association, Inc., Featured in National Publications
Southern Mutual Help Association, Inc., (SMHA) of New Iberia Louisiana, a long-time investment partner of the Adrian Dominican Sisters, has been featured in several national publications over the past several months.
SMHA’s Assistant Executive Director Sister Helen Vinton, SP, is featured in several pieces on the BP Deepwater Horizon oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico and is interviewed in the publication “Voices of the Wetlands.”
SMHA’s work to revitalize the impoverished, predominantly African-American “West End” of New Iberia is featured in an article in the Wall Street Journal on Mennonite Disaster Service’s (MDS) “New Iberia Experiment” – the only place in the country where MDS volunteers are responding to needs arising from long-term, deliberate disinvestment rather than natural disaster.
